Church of FI Honorable Mentions

A frugal librarian who amassed millions? I’ve read about this kind of thing before; seems librarians are pretty good with their money. Plus this guy was extremely well read. published a piece on achieving happiness, according to “science”, of course.

  1. Exercise: 7 Minutes Could Be Enough

I might actually accomplish this every day, if you count trips to the bathroom as exercise.

2. Sleep More: You’ll Be Less Sensitive to Negative Emotions

How can we achieve more sleep when we are so busy? Mr. Tako Escapes says it best, “Stop doing so much! Overcommitting your time to sports, music , housework or social activities. There is nothing wrong with having empty days on your calendar.”

3. Spend More Time With Friends/Family: Money Can’t Buy You Happiness

We make a point to have dinner with friends at least once a week, and as a family, we eat together every night. We also try to plan one fun family activity each weekend, sometimes as simple as taking an evening walk.

4. Get Outside More: Happiness is Maximized at 57°

My happiness is maximized at 70°. These people are crazy.

5. Help Others: 100 Hours a Year is the Magic Number

We can all manage 2 hours a week, right? Mr. TJL helped out with the kiddie soccer practice this week. While he felt a little ridiculous, he also felt great about it.

6. Practice Smiling: Reduce Pain, Improve Mood, Think Better

I read recently that anger begets anger. Dare we say smiling begets happiness? Smile and someone might smile back.

7. Plan a Trip: It Helps Even if You Don’t Actually Take One

My number one favorite thing to do besides plan my early retirement.

8. Meditate: Rewire Your Brain for Happiness

Totally wish I was better at this. My meditation send my thoughts off in obscure and sometimes disturbing directions. It is so hard to clear your mind.

9. Move Closer to Work: A Short Commute is Worth More Than a Big House

Well…..big fail.

10. Practice Gratitude: Increase Happiness and Satisfaction

Another hard one for me….but I am thankful you stopped by!

  1. I like your list, Ms. TJL!

I’m more in the above-57 degree range myself. If I recall correctly, that study was done on college students in Japan…maybe for us ‘Mericanos, a little closer to 70’s the optimal temp.

    Thanks for the fun list!

  2. Thanks for including me on your list. I just posted the latest net worth (for August) –

I’ll be posting my August income in the next few days.

  3. Thanks for the inclusion TJL as always, very nice of you to do this 🙂

I like the list of happiness things you posted, even if they’re not all applicable to me, particularly the trip one – I can actually relate to that. I felt happier and more relaxed when I was thinking about that.

  4. 🙂 Now I better deliver haha….
